Dr. Ruth E. Buck, a Springfield Township High School graduate, renowned physician and philanthropist, has passed away at 91

Ruth E. Buck, M.D., a graduate of Springfield Township High School in Wyndmoor and a renowned physician, passed away on February 23. She was 91.

Dr. Buck attended Philadelphia College of the Bible and graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois and Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, where she was one of 11 women medical students in the class of 1965, according to her obituary.

“Ruth broke glass ceilings and paved the way for other women, doctors, and leaders,” her obituary said. “As a successful radiologist, she participated in medical missions across the globe, and was very active with the Christian Medical and Dental Society.”

Throughout her career, D. Buck supported Christian and anti-poverty causes and created scholarships to support physicians and pastors. She returned to school to study spiritual counseling at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, graduating in 2006.

In her younger days, Dr. Buck captained Springfield’s girls’ basketball Team and was a member of the varsity hockey, softball, and tennis teams. She also participated in student council, chorus, Chronicle, and Honors Society, her obituary said.  

Dr. Buck spent the third chapter of her life at Spring House Estates in Lower Gwynedd Township, which she helped found and on whose Board of Directors she had served decades ago, her obituary said.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026, Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1119 Paper Mill Rd., Oreland, PA, where relatives and friends will be received from 12:30 until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
