Thieves stole between $700,000 and $800,000 in cash from an armored truck outside of H-Mart in the Elkins Park section of Cheltenham Township around 10:30am today, 6ABC reported.
The delivery driver said two men, one of whom was allegedly armed with an AK-style rifle and the other with a handgun, approached him after making a delivery. He was unharmed and the suspects then fled westbound on Cheltenham Avenue into Philadelphia.
Lieutenant Andy Snyder of the Cheltenham Township Police Department said the suspects are believed to be tied to other previous robberies. Police are looking for a black Acura TLX with tinted windows.
“Now this is four or five incidents we’ve had, you know, and an AK-style rifle is definitely not something that you’d want to mess with, so the stakes are very high for everybody,” Snyder said.
