2nd generation Holocaust survivor who attended Elkins Park School speaks to Cheltenham High students

Cheltenham High School World History students learned from seven second-generation Holocaust survivors this week, school officials announced today.

The opportunity was arranged by Lise Marlowe, a former Cheltenham School District teacher and current Education Director at the Holocaust Awareness Museum & Education Center in Elkins Park.

Students heard from Dr. Stephen Weiner who attended Elkins Park School, and whose mother survived the Nazi regime in Belgium. He brought various historical documents to share with the students, including a history report his mother was working on the day she went into hiding in 1942.

Dr. Weiner also shared his grandfather’s ledger of sales, a book that included every name of the people who died in the Holocaust, and the book he wrote telling his mom’s story through 25 smuggled letters she wrote to her family when she was 13 years old.

More details about the visit can be found here. For more information on the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center, located at 8339 Old York Road in Elkins Park, you can visit their website.
