The Abington School District announced that an online survey regarding the decision to build a new Abington Middle School is open now through 11:59pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
According to the district’s memo, the questionnaire “aims to help guide the District’s priorities during this critical phase of the project.”
“From the beginning, Abington School District’s Board of School Directors and leadership team have been committed to making this a community-involved initiative, and this survey is the next step in engaging our stakeholders to ensure that the new Abington Middle School reflects the needs and priorities of our students, staff and community,” Dr. Jeffrey Fecher, superintendent, said in a statement.
A referendum was passed in the spring to approve the $285,000,000 project and is believed to be the largest of its kind in Pennsylvania.
“We’ve worked very hard over the three years of his process to be as transparent as possible with voters in Abington and Rockledge. It’s been a multi-phase process, and one of the things that was really important to this board is that we get input from the community before advancing a referendum,” Abington School District board president Dr. Melissa Mowry told Glenside Local in May. “That’s one of the most important aspects of this from a school board perspective. We’re a community-based organization, and we’re not interested in usurping anyone’s right to vote. We want to make sure that we develop a project that will serve both the needs and the means of the community.”
The design process for the school is expected to begin in June, with construction coming in 2027. The new building is expected to be ready as early as the 2029-2030 school year. Additional information about the project and ongoing updates are available here.
