Harle Hathaway “Buster” Brooks, a Meadowbrook resident and longtime member of Abington Fire Company, passed away on Thursday, December 21. He was 101 years old.
Brooks joined the Abington Fire Company in April 1957, served as Assistant Chief for seven years, and attended the company’s monthly meetings well into his late 90s, his obituary said.
Prior, Brooks joined the Navy and “was deployed from San Francisco on the USS West Point to the South Pacific, where he stayed for the remainder of WWII, travelling from island to island,” the obituary said. He later joined the Marine Reserves and then went on to join his father as a conductor for the Reading Railroad.


He met his wife, Blanche Krapf Brooks, when she was 14 and he was 16. They were together until her death in 1987. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
A Masonic Service will be held at 10:00am followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am on Friday, December 29 at Abington Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abington Township Fire Department, 1176 Old York Road, Abington Township.
