The Abington Township Police Department announced today the arrest of Jonathan Dell, 24, of Philadelphia, on charges in connection with an armed home invasion on December 2 at the 200 block of Cedar Road in the Elkins Park Section of Abington Township.
The homeowner reported to police that two suspects approached her at gun point and announced a robbery while she was loading items into her car in her driveway. The suspects then forced her into the home where she and her adult son were held at gunpoint.
The suspects ransacked the home and stole cash, jewelry, electronics, and collectibles. Prior to their departure, the suspects bound the victims and fled in the homeowner’s vehicle, police said.
A short time later, the victims freed themselves and called for help. Neither victim was injured.
An investigation found that the home had been targeted by the suspects due to a personal connection that Dell had to a member of the household.
Dell was taken into custody by Abington detectives with the assistance of the U.S Marshals Service on December 12, 2024.
Detectives identified the second suspect as Jalen Douglas-Smith, 18, of Philadelphia. An arrest warrant was obtained, and on Wednesday, February 19, he was taken into custody by members of the U.S Marshals Service in Philadelphia and transported to the Abington Police Department.
Douglas-Smith was charged with multiple offenses including Robbery, Burglary, Kidnapping, and Assault and is awaiting arraignment in this case, police said.
