Abington, Cheltenham police on alert for threats at synagogues during Passover

The Abington and Cheltenham police departments were featured by NBC10 for their efforts to address antisemitic threats during Passover, which begins Monday, April 22.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, 2023-24 is on track to be the highest year for antisemitic acts since the ADL started tracking the data in the 1970s.

“We’re fully aware of the tensions in the Middle East, the current temperature of antisemitic acts happening all across the country,” Lt. Steven Fink, Abington Township Police Department, said. “We’re working with our federal, state, local law enforcement officers in the intelligence community to make sure we’re getting all the intelligence we need.”

Lt. Andrew Snyder, Cheltenham Township Police Department, noted that there are “seven synagogues spread throughout the township.”

“We want the public to know that we’re doing everything we can to improve their safety,” Snyder said. “We also need their help. If there’s something they see that seems minor or unimportant, they can pass that information on to us and we can investigate it.”
