Bonnie B. Mettler of Wyncote (far right above) recently received the annual Harold and Alma Able Peace Award for her art exhibit “Engine of Racism” which was unveiled this summer at Pebble Hill Interfaith Church in Doylestown.
Now in its 39th year, Pebble Hill Interfaith gave this year’s award to two people, a first. The other award was given to Michael Sturgeon of Doylestown for his years of volunteer work with the Nicaragua Relief Fund.
“I realized racism was like an engine, built by greed in colonial times, maintained over 400 years, and it drives us still,” she told The Reporter. “I am determined to have the conversations, in paint and in person, concerning racism in America. The Confederacy lost the war and their grip on slavery. They should not be allowed to win the nation’s collective silence about racism.”
A ceremony was held on August 13 at Pebble Hill Interfaith.
