Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a 1967 graduate of Cheltenham High School, said he nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, ABC News reported today.
“He’s forging peace as we speak, in one country, in one region after the other,” the former Elkins Park resident said during remarks to reporters ahead of a White House dinner on Monday. “So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee. It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved. You should get it.”
The article also notes that a proposed 60-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is “currently in the works. Trump said last week Israel had accepted the deal, and Hamas last week submitted a “positive response” to mediators.” More details here.
In late June, Netanyahu and Trump spoke with each other about the Israel-Iran ceasefire declared by Trump, who reportedly scolded both sides for violations and urged Israel not to resume attacks on Iran.
“Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and dropped a boat load of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen before. The biggest load that we’ve seen, I’m not happy with Israel,” Trump told reporters outside the White House, adding that “I’m not happy with Iran either.”
