A woman who walked onto the Fort Washington section of I-276 was hit by a car on Wednesday afternoon, NBC10 reported.

The incident happened on the westbound lanes near Route 309 at mile marker 337.6 just before 4:00pm. The crash temporarily closed the westbound lanes, and the victim was taken to a hospital via medical helicopter with serious injuries.

The driver of that car stayed at the scene, police said.

The Pennsylvania State Police is investigating this crash as a possible attempted suicide, officials told NBC10.
