William Penn NSDAR chapter honors Veterans from Abington, Quakertown with Quilts of Valor

Members of the William Penn Chapter National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) presented handmade Quilts of Valor to Morse Singer of Meadowbrook (Abington Township) and William Compton of Quakertown during their March 5 meeting at Abington Presbyterian Church.

Singer is a 21-year veteran of the Navy who retired as Chief Petty Officer. Compton served as Army Private First Class in Vietnam from October 1965 to October 1967.

Quilt of Valor (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war. The Quilts of Valor Program has donated more than 400,000 quilts to service members worldwide. Each veteran is also given a certificate.

The quilts were made through a collaboration of the William Penn Chapter and the Great Valley Chapter of the NSDAR. The William Penn chapter members who worked on the quilts included Sue Singer (prepared quilt tops), Judith Coughlin (bound quilts) and Cynthia Ross (bound quilts).  Kathleen Conway, from Great Valley Chapter, handled the quilting.

“Today and every day, we honor and thank our service members and veterans for their dedication and sacrifice in defending our freedom. We also salute their families, recognizing the strength and support they provide” Singer said.
