Weldon Fire Company invites those who assisted in the SPS fire to march in 4th of July parade, registration open for ‘Keep the Parade Running’ race

The Greater Glenside Patriotic Association and the Weldon Fire Company will host a special 4th of July celebration on behalf of the 67 companies that helped battle the SPS Technologies fire earlier this month.

Any member who assisted the Weldon Fire Company is invited to march during the parade.

From their announcement:

No words can truly express our gratitude to the 67 companies who stood shoulder to shoulder with us, battling the flames with unwavering courage and dedication. Thanks to your efforts, no lives were lost—and that is something worth celebrating.

On behalf of the Weldon Fire Company, we invite you to join us in Glenside on July 4th for a special celebration in your honor. As we gather on this day of patriotism and unity, we will recognize your bravery with an award ceremony, great food, and local refreshments.

Following the celebration, we invite any member who assisted us at SPS to march proudly with Weldon in the Glenside Parade, along with one apparatus or vehicle from your company.

This Independence Day, let’s come together—not just to celebrate our nation’s freedom, but to honor the selflessness and heroism that kept our community safe.

A formal invitation with further details will follow.

In related news, the GGPA will host the 12th annual “Keep the Parade Running” fundraiser on Saturday, April 12 at 8:00am.

There are 10 age categories for the race, which starts and ends at North Penn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 676, Jenkintown and Easton Roads.

The event is crucial to keeping alive Glenside’s three-tier, family-friendly Independence Day celebration. It helps pay the nearly $70,000 cost of the 4th of July festivities, which include a children’s program, after-dark fireworks, and the Glenside Parade.

Sign-ups for the 5K and 1 mile walk can be found here.
