Local historian Chuck Langerman has highlighted the current professional statuses of three Cheltenham alumni:
Peter Lee
Lee, a 1986 graduate, is the owner and founder of Jolie Salon & Spa, a full-service hair salon and luxury spa in Blue Bell.
Lee became a licensed hairstylist in 1989 and currently has 70 employees. The establishment has been featured prominently in the SuburbanLife magazine and has received best-in-class accolades from the national magazine Salon Today for several years running.
Nadiyah Bell
Bell, a 2020 alumna, graduated magna cum laude this spring from Howard University in Washington D.C. with a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
She was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success at Howard and member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers through the Howard student chapter. After graduation, Bell started a full-time position as a Highway Design Specialist at Traffic Planning Design, Inc.
At Cheltenham High, Bell held a 3.6 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, Black Scholars Program, the Panther Cheerleading Squad (captain) and the Blue and Gold Dance Team (captain). She was also an Algebra II Tutor and a member of the Black Student Union and Environmental Club.
Ian Wright
Wright, a 2020 alum, was recently accepted into the prestigious Columbia University Doctoral Program in Neurobiology and Behavior after majoring in neuroscience at Lafayette College.
The Columbia Access to Doctoral REadiness (CADRE) is a comprehensive two-year post-baccalaureate research program funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The program is intended for recent college graduates of high potential who are interested in pursuing a research career in Neuroscience.
At Cheltenham High, Wright was a member of the ultimate frisbee team.
