Local historian Chuck Langerman has highlighted the current professional statuses of three Cheltenham alumni:
Mark D. Harnitchek
Navy Vice Admiral Mark D. Harnitchek, a 1973 graduate, is a member of the Defense Logistics Agency Hall of Fame following a 37-year military career.
Harnitchek retired as the director of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) which is the Department of Defense’s largest logistics combat support agency. Located in 48 states and 28 countries, the DLA provides supplies to the military services and supports their acquisition of weapons, repair parts, and other materials. It also provides crucial relief to victims of natural disasters and humanitarian aid to those in need.
As its director, Harnitchek oversaw the employment of close to 27,000 military and civilian workers. He attended Penn State University.
Kenneth P. Vogel
Vogel, a 1993 graduate, is an award-winning journalist who recently talked politics on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.”
Vogel was the chief investigative reporter at the American political journalism company Politico since its founding in 2007. In June 2017, he joined the Washington Bureau of The New York Times as a reporter covering conflicts of interest, lobbying, and money in politics.

He is the author of “Big Money: 2.5 Billion Dollars,” “One Suspicious Vehicle,” and a “Pimp-on the Trail of the Ultra-Rich Hijacking American Politics.”
Vogel’s writing often focuses on money in politics, and his articles have been named among the best investigative news stories on campaign finance. As part of his work, he often writes about political fundraising with particular emphasis on the political activities of the Koch brothers, Charles and David.
A Philadelphia sports fan, he is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Beth Sanborn
Dr. Beth Sanborn, a 1993 graduate, is a retired police officer and currently the Montgomery County School Safety Coordinator where she is responsible for over 400 schools in the county.
Dr. Sanborn served the Lower Gwynedd Township Police Department for 26 years as a police officer, detective, and a school resource officer.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Widener University and her master’s degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from St. Joseph’s University.
She attained her Doctorate in Public Administration from West Chester University. Her doctoral thesis was entitled “Pennsylvania School Resource Officers as Mentors/Counselors, Including Levels of Intervention.”
At Cheltenham High, Dr. Sanborn participated on the volleyball and swim teams.
