The Meadowbrook School, a 106-year-old independent elementary school in Abington Township, won top honors at Montgomery County’s Reading Olympics on Thursday, March 6.
More than 4,000 students across the county competed in the academic competition designed to encourage students to read a pre-selected variety of books and compete with other teams to answer questions based on those books. Students are broken up into teams according to their school district and are asked a series of questions divided into categories based on their reading level. The team with the most correct answers and highest points earned is named the winner.
Participating Meadowbrook students voluntarily dedicated their recess time twice a week since October to prepare, including an additional hour after school for the four weeks leading up to the event.
Four ribbons are awarded for correct questions answered: Yellow for nineteen correct answers, green for twenty to twenty-nine, red for thirty to thirty-nine, and blue for over forty questions answered correctly.
Meadowbrook received blue ribbons, the top honor.
