The business district along High School Road in Elkins Park is hosting a BYOC (bring your own chalk) Grinchy Chalk Art Contest on Saturday, December 7 beginning at 11:30am.
The contest is part of “Whooville Returns“, a holiday-themed event which debuted last December and includes multiple local art vendors. The Grinch will serve as the contest’s judge, and this year, he’s bringing along some friends.
“He’s coming with his girlfriend, his dog, and more attractions,” Hector Luis Ybe, owner of Elkins Nutrition, said. “We want to incorporate all the businesses in High School Park together and we want to fill out the whole street with art. I’m hoping it turns into a small University Studios where you can jump realities from one street to the next.”
Participants are encouraged to choose a spot along the road to make their art. The Grinch will arrive at 1:30pm for pictures, followed by the announcement of winners and prizes at 2:30pm.
“We want to give a lot of love to the community this year. Last year’s coloring page was an introduction,” Ybe said, alluding to the recently published free coloring book which tells the story of the Grinch of Elkins Park.
“The book tells the story of kindness. It was illustrated by my mom. It’s amazing,” Ybe said. “It was made with a lot of love for the community which has supported us since Day One. Every year we’re going to bring a new story with new illustrations featuring different areas within Cheltenham Township. We’ve already started to make the book for next year.”
A little after sundown, Elkins Nutrition will host an observation night with a holiday touch.
“This is for anyone who would like to bring their telescopes. We’ll be combining art, science, and nutrition,” Ybe said. “It’s going to be a nice evening full of smiles and surprises.”
The ninth annual Sit with Santa Holiday Festival will coincide with “Whooville Returns.” A schedule is below:
