Santa and the Grinch to visit Elkins Park’s ‘Whoville’ on Dec. 10: Street vendors, family activities, and more

The annual “Sit with Santa” event at Creekside Market & Tap is getting a facelift this year.

Two weeks ago, local realtor Jeff Chirico and Cheshire Brewing Co. announced their “Sit with Santa Holiday Festival” on Sunday, December 10. Craftspeople, a craft corner for kids, face painting, food vendors, and carolers will be on site.

More recently, local businesses along High School Road in Elkins Park have gotten on board and will be hosting a series of activities and events to sprinkle some holiday spirit into the business district.

Among those leading the charge is Elkins Nutrition owner Hector Luis Ybe.

“We’ve been working together to close out the street for the day. Each business will have its own unique show. I will have ‘Whoville’ as my event,” Ybe said. “I’m going to have vendors, a caricaturist, and the first 50 kids will receive a free toy from Abington Homecare. The first 50 seniors will receive a free antioxidant tea.”

From 11:00am until 1:30pm, the Grinch will be making his rounds as well (don’t tell the kids, but Mr. Grinch is actually Ybe in costume).

“We’ll be giving out these maps to the kids to color on Christmas Eve,” he said. “Every business will have their own activity. We’re just trying to get people to stop by every business on High School Road.”

Santa will appear at 2:00pm at Elkins Park Station and, after stopping along for photos with kids, he will end up in Creekside.

Violets in Bloom, another High School Road business, will be offering a holiday gemstone dig for $3.00 a person.

“We’ll use slotted troughs with sand and kids can shake it out and they’ll get their crystals,” Ava Adames, the store’s owner, said. “We’re all going to have our own little attractions.”

15-20 street vendors will on High School Road as well, courtesy of VLC Candle Shop. Last but not least, caricaturist David will be offering original holiday caricatures pro bono at 11:00am at Elkins Park Station, courtesy of Elkins Nutrition.
