Montgomery County officials announced today that there have been 171 new positive test results for Coronavirus. That brings the total number of positive cases across the county to 3,383. If you are following this number day-to-day you will notice today’s number increased over what has been reported in recent days.

County Commissioner Dr. Val Arkoosh stated that the increase was due to testing done at several long-term care facilities (about half of the 171 positive cases resulted from long-term care facilities). Arkooshed stressed that the rate of positive test results among the general public remained the same.

There were 10 additional deaths since yesterday, which brings the countywide total thus far to 189. In addition, 96 probable deaths were reported. That brings total deaths to 285.

The latest local data:

• Abington Township is at 254, which is 14 more than yesterday
  • There have been 17 deaths in Abington, which is one more than yesterday
• Cheltenham Township is at 262, which is 17 more than yesterday
  • There have been nine deaths in Cheltenham, which is two more than yesterday
• Jenkintown is at 23, which is the same as yesterday
  • There have been zero deaths in Jenkintown

In regards to long-term care facilities, 837 residents and 367 staff members of these facilities have tested positive. Not all are residents of Montgomery County, so they do not all count against the county total of 3,383. This data is self-reported from the facilities and is not always consistent day-to-day.

There have been 138 confirmed deaths of Montgomery County residents connected to a long-term care facility. That means 73% of the deaths that had a positive test result. In addition, there were 65 probable deaths of county residents at long-term care facilities.
