Starbucks, frozen dessert shop coming to Jenkintown, Giant grocery store to start demolition in September

According to Jenkintown Borough, the parking lot at 610 York Road, vacant for half a century, will soon see activity.

Borough Manager George Locke said that conditional use hearings for the property are expected in August, and that a Strawbridge and Clothier was the last business to use the land.

“They’re going to build a coffee shop there with a drive-thru. It’ll be a 2,500 sqft building. They’re also going to have a 1,000 sqft frozen dessert place,” Locke said.

In related news, the forthcoming Giant grocery store has a highway occupancy permit in hand, and developers are looking to start demolition in September.

“They also have their conservation district approvals, which are complicated to get,” Locke said.

Construction is expected to start in November.
