Today the supermarket chain GIANT announced plans for a new store in Jenkintown. Plans for the store were covered by Glenside Local in September 2022, though the identity of ownership has been unavailable until now.
The proposed redevelopment project has a 50,000 square foot store being built from the ground up at the former site of Glanzmann Subaru and a set of commercial stores bordered by Old York Road, Washington Lane and Wyncote Lane.
This would be the first store in Jenkintown for the Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based grocery retailer.

“With a decades-long history of serving Montgomery County, we are excited to bring GIANT to Jenkintown,” said John Ruane, GIANT’s interim president. “The GIANT Company is looking forward to serving the families of Jenkintown by offering a simplified shopping experience, inspiring fresh ideas, and creating a healthier community, true to our purpose of connecting families for a better future.”
Construction is scheduled to begin once municipal entitlements and permits are available. The new store will bring over 100 jobs to the local community. Specific store amenities, as well as opening date, will be shared at a later date.
Currently, The GIANT Company operates 21 stores in Montgomery County and employs nearly 3,900 team members.
