Sisters Marietta Jansen (aci Sr. Marietta Barbara, above left) and Alice Rodriguez (aci Sr. Maria Alicia, above right) passed away on July 25 and July 21, respectively, in Saint Joseph Villa of Flourtown where they resided.
The Sisters were each 92 years old and longtime members of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sister Jansen served the Handmaids for 71 years, Sister Rodriguez for 74 years.
“Marietta’s Handmaid life of 71 years embodied the Eucharist through her quiet presence and active listening, radiating peace, love, and acceptance wherever she lived and served,” Sister Jansen’s obituary said.
“She was a woman of deep prayer, grounded in a profound, childlike trust in her God,” Sister Rodriguez’s obituary said. “This trust allowed her to surrender joyfully and peacefully to God’s will in all things and at all times.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Sisters Marietta and Alice on August 1 at 10:30 AM at Saint Joseph Villa Chapel, 110 Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown. A Visitation preceding the Mass will begin at 9:30 AM. Int. Holy Sepulchre Cem.
