The Abington Township Police Department announced today the arrest of Khabir Shepard for forcing his way into a resident’s home by gunpoint, assaulting the resident, and attempting to steal her purse.
According to the department, officers were dispatched on Monday, September 23 at 1:00am to the 1800 block of Horace Avenue for a report of a shooting following a home invasion.
A female victim/resident told police that an unknown male, later identified as Shepard, had entered her home and attempted to steal her purse after she had recently returned from a local casino.
According to the victim, Shepard pointed a gun at her and forced his way into the home. He then pushed the victim to the ground and grabbed her purse from the dining room table. She screamed for help from her adult son, who was asleep in a rear bedroom. The son retrieved a legally owned firearm, and, upon seeing Shepard’s firearm, fired two shots.
Shepard was struck in the back and arm and ran to the home’s front lawn where he collapsed. Police soon arrived and took him into custody.
Police said a handgun was recovered from the front of the home and is believed to be the firearm Shepard pointed inside the home. Further investigation revealed that the victim was followed home by Shepard after she exited a local casino.
Subsequent to his arrest, Shepard was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. He was charged with numerous offenses, including Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary and Carrying a Firearm Without a License.
He was arraigned and is being held in Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail, according to police.
