Sidney Gamburg, longtime co-owner of Gamburg’s Furniture and Hatboro High Hall of Famer, has passed away

Sidney Malcom Gamburg, longtime co-owner of Gamburg’s Furniture in Hatboro, passed away on Wednesday, August 21 in his home in Lafayette Hill. He was 88.

According to his obituary, Mr. Gamburg graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1958 before serving as a pharmacist in the U.S. Army from 1960 – 1962. He joined the four-generation family business in 1962.

Mr. Gamburg also served as a board member of Hatboro Federal Savings for 38 years and was inducted to the Hatboro High School Hall of Fame in 1997. He was recognized as Hatboro’s Honored Citizen for Service to Business in 2003 as well as “Retailer of the Year” by the Home Furnishing Association. 

After 94 years at 101 S York Road, Gamburg’s Furniture closed in late 2023.

Services will be held on Friday, August 23 at 11:00am at the Joseph Levine and Sons Memorial Chapel, 4737 Street Road, Trevose. Internment is at Roosevelt Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to The American for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem (www.acsz.org/gamburg).

Sidney and his wife Joyce, along with in-laws Evelyn and David Fogel, have been supporters of Shaare Zedek Medical Center, located in Jerusalem, Israel, since 1970. The Fogel and Gamburg families have continued to support the Neonatal unit at the hospital in memory of their daughter and sister, DeeDee Fogel Silverstein. All contributions in honor of Sidney Gamburg will be donated to the Neonatology unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel.
