A reminder that SEPTA parking fees will be reinstated using a “phased approach” from September 23 through November 15.
The parking fee reinstatement schedule includes exact dates, with Jenkintown-Wyncote Station and Glenside Station up first. Other start dates for stations in greater Glenside include:
- Fort Washington Station: Friday, September 27
- Oreland Station: Friday, October 25
- North Hills Station: Monday, November 4
- Ardsley Station: Wednesday, October 9
- Roslyn Station: Monday, October 21
- Hatboro Station: Monday, October 2
- Willow Grove Station: Tuesday, October 29
- Elkins Park Station: Friday, October 25
- Melrose Park Station: Friday, October 25
The agency announced plans in June to end its four years of free parking, intended to bring back riders since the onset of the pandemic.
Surface Lots (96 SEPTA-owned locations) will now cost $2 per day (previously $1). Garages (3 locations: Frankford Transportation Center, Norristown Transportation Center and Lansdale Station) will cost $4 per day (previously $2). Parking remains free on weekends and major holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas), SEPTA said.
“As part of this change, the traditional slot boxes will be phased out and replaced with modern pay stations, which will be installed at all surface lots and garages,” SEPTA said. “These pay stations will accept credit/debit cards and coins, reflecting our commitment to improving customer convenience. Additionally, mobile payment options will be available via text or through a dedicated mobile app.”
Detailed instructions will be posted at stations, and SEPTA ambassadors will be onsite to answer questions.
Parking Enforcement Officers will read license plates using vehicle-mounted cameras. Violations or warnings will be issued for illegally parked vehicles, SEPTA said.
Abington Grade Crossing Renewal Project
In related news, SEPTA crews completed a Grade Crossing Renewal Project at the intersection of Easton Road and Susquehanna Road in Abington Township last week.
As part of the week-long project, crews performed additional excavation for a duct bank outside of the track area, installed conduit on the west side of the tracks, removed the existing crossing surface and worn ties and rails, installed new ties and rails, and reconstructed the grade crossing with a new asphalt surface.
The grade crossing and the approaches were milled and paved before reopening the road to service.
The new grade crossing provides a smoother ride across the tracks and took care of any cracks and potholes in the road.
