Sen. Collett releases joint statement regarding ICE Activity in Montgomery County

Senator Maria Collett of Fort Washington recently released the following joint statement regarding ICE Activity in Montgomery County:

There can be no question that the militarized raids we have witnessed in grocery stores, apartment complexes, and street corners across Montgomery County are a betrayal of our shared American values.

When judicial warrants are required from every law enforcement agency, why has ICE been permitted to engage in such blatant government overreach? When masked agents target hardworking members of our community, not dangerous criminals as they claim, we will not remain silent. When our neighbors are being arrested and detained based on their heritage, occupation, or language and ripped from their families without the due process they are owed, we stand united against this cruelty and intimidation. And we will continue to stand steadfastly in support of our friends and neighbors who are now afraid to even leave their homes.

Because we know right from wrong. Because we know that when they deny due process to any of us they deny it to all of us. And because we know that the diversity of our communities is an integral part of what makes us so special.

The statement, which was released on Thursday, follows an ICE raid at a Norristown supermarket on Wednesday, during which 14 undocumented immigrants were arrested, according to CBS News.
