Following a foot chase that began inside the Willow Grove Park Mall on Saturday, Abington police apprehended Nelson Bermejo Fumero, a man accused of stealing 28 items worth $1,877.00 from Macy’s, NBC10 reported today.

According to their coverage, store staff reported that a man put items inside a red bag and walked out without paying for them. When officers approached the suspect, he dropped the bag and ran past shoppers on the first floor up to the second floor.

When police tried to arrest him, he resisted, injuring an officer’s knee and leading police on another foot chase across Easton Road. He was eventually caught in a resident’s backyard and taken into custody, NBC10 said.

Police said Fumero is from another country and that “they are not happy that Judge Hakim Jones released Fumero on a signature bond, meaning he didn’t have to put up any money,” according to the story.
