Cheltenham Township is implementing a curfew for the second night. This one is from 8:30 p.m. tonight to 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.
The township has released more detailed rules that are in effect during the curfew (mostly who can be out and for what purposes). Below is the announcement:
In the interest of public safety and the exercise of an abundance of caution, Cheltenham Township has again issued a curfew from 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
During the curfew period, people are not permitted in or on public streets and public spaces, including roads; sidewalks; public parks, trails and open spaces; and other rights-of-way.
Exceptions to curfew consist of the following:
1) authorized law enforcement, emergency service and medical personnel
2) individuals traveling directly to and from:
· places of employment
· attendance of religious services
· voting for elective office
· seeking medical care3) fleeing from dangerous circumstances
4) commercial trucking and delivery services
Retail businesses which are permitted to be open under the statewide COVID-19 Emergency Orders are urged to close prior to the 8:30 p.m. curfew in order to allow employees and customers to safely make their way home before implementation of the curfew this evening.
“We ask residents to observe the curfew so they can stay safe and our emergency personnel can focus on preventing the destruction of property and protecting the lives of our residents,” said Cheltenham Township Police Chief John Frye.
Daniel Norris, President of the Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners said, “We do not want to infringe on the ability of our residents to peaceably assemble and encourage them to so; however, we want to ensure that they and their property are safe and their message can continue to be heard, so we ask them to stay home during the curfew period.”
