Resilience Resource Center in Huntingdon Valley to host Open House Fundraiser on May 19, feat. by Philly Gay News

Resilience Resource Center in Huntingdon Valley was recently featured by Philadelphia Gay News in an article titled “Resilience Resource Center in Huntingdon Valley is more than a therapy suite”.

The article discusses the work of Joseph Torre, the center’s co-founder, to create a place for LGBTQ+ people living in Montgomery County and adjacent areas to access traditional therapy, weekly support groups, career counseling, style advice, art events, and peer connections.

Torre, now 68, is a licensed therapist who provides counseling services through the organization. He said his experiences as an isolated youth motivated him to create the center, a physical location for which was first leased in October 2023.

“It was a really isolating experience because you really didn’t know where to go, who to talk to, who you can trust,” he told PGN.

The organization’s one-year anniversary is coming up, as is their first Open House Fundraiser on Sunday, May 19 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The event is sponsored by Rudolph Clarke, LLC. and William R. May Funeral Home, Inc. of Glenside.

From their announcement:

In addition to touring our fully accessible center, we will have various raffle and auction items available, including Philadelphia Eagles memorabilia, tickets to Longwood Gardens, tickets to Smoke & Mirrors Magic Theater gift cards, artwork and more.

On Monday, May 13, State Senator Collett will visit the center to discuss its mission and take part in a tour.

“We’re trying to let the community know we’re here,” Torre told PGN. “We need to recognize that we do need each other, and we need to support each other.”
