Rep. Dean of Glenside speaks to reporters at U.S. Capitol in support of War Powers Resolution

Representative Madeleine Dean of Glenside appeared yesterday on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in support of a War Powers Resolution (WPR).

According to Congress.gov, the WPR “establishes presidential reporting requirements and parliamentary procedures intended to reaffirm the constitutional role of Congress in committing the United States into armed conflict abroad.”

According to Dean’s post on social media, Democrats traveled to Washington DC to introduce the resolution “while Speaker [Mike] Johnson is nowhere to be found.”

“Service members are at risk, Americans are scared, and the world is on edge over this President’s erratic actions,” the post said. “We must stop this war of choice.”

A subsequent post states:

House Democrats introduced a War Powers resolution to reassert congressional authority and stop Trump’s war of choice.

House Republicans blocked it — choosing loyalty to one man over their duty to the American people.

“Democrats are here on the hill saying to the Congress, ‘Have us back in session so that we can live up to our constitutional responsibility’,” Dean told reporters. “It is Congress who can declare war. It is not a self-serving president who is guided by Netanyahu for his own purposes.”

“Look at us now in a war of his choosing, egged on by Mr. Netanyahu for his purposes. A war that has proved deadly to 13 members of the U.S. military. Hundreds of others are injured, thousands of innocents buried in the rubble,” she continued.

According to The Guardian, House Democrats’ attempt at passing a WPR “failed after the Republican pro forma speaker, Chris Smith, did not recognize lawmakers from the opposite party on the floor.”

On April 7, Dean called for the invocation of the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office.
