The Lynnewood Hall Preservation Foundation recently shared the history of Lynnewood Lodge, as well as past and present photos of the 15,000sf building.
From their Facebook post:
Lynnewood Lodge, a building not often spoken of, or even well known.
When the estate was first constructed in 1899, this building was originally the carriage house and stables. Between 1918-1924, it was used as “Joselle Kennels” where Peter A.B. Widener II raised German Shepherds. The name is a combination of his parents names; Joseph and Ella
In 1925, Joseph completely gutted the building and turned it into a private resident for his son P.A.B. II and daughter-in-law Gertrude.
Today the sprawling 15,000sq ft residence sits in much need of repair and loving we are in the process of planning. The Lodge is overshadowed by the Hall and most are not familiar with its history, let alone existence.
We look forward to diving into the rich history of Lynnewood Lodge with you all in future posts and sharing what we have in store for this magnificent building.
