The Philadelphia Inquirer recently included the forthcoming Highland Restaurant in Glenside and a Nifty Fifty’s in Abington as part of their article titled “60 new restaurants coming to the Philly area this fall”.
From the article:
The Highland Glenside (391 Highland Ave., Glenside): Dan Katz of West Avenue Grill and Pizza Wheel takes the former Bernie’s pub in Glenside with a bar-restaurant featuring live music.
Nifty Fifty’s (1140 Old York Rd., Abington): The ’50s-theme diner chain comes to Eastern Montgomery County.
Highland co-owners Dan and Chelsea Katz expect to open their doors towards the end of September or the beginning of October. The duo has hosted two job fairs in August which have drawn significant attention from the community.
Abington Township commissioner John Spiegelman, Ward 11, recently published an update regarding Nifty Fifty’s opening. According to owner Chan Nuth, construction should be completed in October, with restaurant operations beginning in early November.
An excerpt from the update:
Mr. Nuth is taking numerous steps to provide for ample restaurant parking, including adding parking lot spaces by restriping and relocating some A/C equipment; paying nearby parking lot owners (such as the dentist’s office and the Dratch brothers, owners of the courthouse building) for overflow parking agreements (the locations of/directions to which will be clearly indicated by signage outside the restaurant); and asking that the handful of parking spots on Guernsey directly adjacent to the restaurant (before the beginning of the permit-only parking zone) be lined so that it will be clear that they, unlike the permit-restricted areas next to the homes on the block, are available as public parking, which will also be helpful on busy days at the courthouse.
The Inquirer mentioned the Highland and Nifty Fifty’s in a restaurant-centric July article as well.
