Nidhi Ram, junior at Lower Moreland HS, wins computer science award, cash prize for infectious dengue virus model

Nidhi Ram, a junior at Lower Moreland High School and pictured in the above image’s center, recently won the “Almac Award for Excellence in Computer Science” at the Montgomery County Regional Science Research Competition last week.

Ram’s project modeled infectious dengue virus cases using weather factors and was invited to the Almac’s company headquarters building for a luncheon.

After the luncheon, Nidhi presented her project to Almac’s senior leadership and received a tour of Almac’s clinical services operations. Nidhi and the Lower Moreland mathematics department also received cash prizes with the award.

The dengue virus infects 100–400 million people each year, roughly half of the world’s population. The virus is carried by mosquitoes and is found in tropical and sub-tropical climates common in the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
