Glenside, PA — Glenside resident and recent graduate of Temple University’s School of Theater, Film and Media Arts Megan McCormick has had a love of theater since childhood. Now she is bringing the benefits of theater arts education and the joy of performing to students through her Sine Timore Theatre Company.

The company offers its third production with Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins JR., running June 28–30, 2019 at Gratz College (7605 Old York Rd, Elkins Park, PA).

Under McCormick’s artistic direction, a cast of 21 local student performers, in grades six through twelve, will present four performances of the musical based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time and the Broadway musical that played for over 2,500 performances and received multiple Olivier and Tony Awards nominations. Tickets are $10 and available in advance via the company’s website, www.sttheatre.com, or at the door.

McCormick says she wants to provide affordable, accessible theater classes and performance opportunities to kids in her hometown community—where she first gained experience performing in St. Luke’s Summer Stock. “Glenside is where I grew up and was first able to network with my voice teachers, music teachers and local companies,” she says. “I’m attracted to this community because of its diversity and inclusive atmosphere, and I wanted to bring my interpretation of youth theater to the place that I know and love.”

The director explains that theater arts education offer much more than technical training and artistic expression: “While theater is an art form, it also builds valuable skills that anyone can benefit from. The kids grow in their confidence, public speaking, team building, friendships, kindness and inclusivity. My top priority is to build teams where all the kids bring out the personal best in each other.”

Sine Timore Theatre of CultureTust (Sine Timore translates to “Without Fear”) is a family endeavor with McCormick’s mother, Jennifer McCormick, serving as producer and her younger brother, Peter McCormick, serving as production assistant. “Everyone in my family gets involved in some form or another, and we collaborate seamlessly,” she says.
