The Roslyn Fire Company announced that crews responded to two fires in Abington Township on Sunday, August 2 and Monday, August 3.

Officials received notice of a house fire at the 600 block of Monroe Avenue at 11:45pm. Arriving crews quickly extinguished a small fire in the basement.

Officials said the first home’s occupants were able to evacuate safely before firefighters arrived. Edge Hill Fire Company, Weldon Fire Company, and Abington Fire Company provided mutual aid.

A second house fire at the 2900 block of Jefferson Avenue was reported at 3:47am. Abington police advised of heavy fire coming from the rear of the home.

“Arriving first on scene, crews from Engine 500 stretched a handline and began an aggressive interior fire attack,” the post said. “Firefighters from Tower 500 conducted a primary search of the residence, while crews from Squad 500 established a positive water supply to Engine 500 and provided ground support by placing ladders around the structure.”

Edge Hill Fire Company, Weldon Fire Company, Abington Fire Company, McKinley Fire Company, Jenkintown Volunteer Fire Department, and Glenside Fire Company provided mutual aid.

No one was home at the second residence, and no firefighters were injured during either incident, officials said.
