Multiple crews assist with early morning power outage in Huntingdon Valley, senior center residents temporarily transferred

The Huntingdon Valley Fire Company shared that crews were dispatched at 4:38am on Thursday, July 25 for a power outage caused by a tree which had brought down an electrical line near Welsh and Terwood roads.

Officials said the power outage occurred in a number of nearby buildings, including the Huntingdon Valley Post Office (830 Welsh Road), the Artis Senior Living facility (2085 Lieberman Drive), Gloria Dei Manor (753 Welsh Road) and Gloria Dei Towers senior facility (770 Welsh Road).

58 residents of the Artis Senior Living facility were triaged, tracked manually and electronically, and temporarily transferred to three facilities in the region. The process began at 9:22am and ended at 4:10pm, officials said.

Bryn Athyn Fire Company officials noted that the transfer process included passenger vans and wheelchair vans from several private ambulance companies and Second Alarmer’s Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County.

Crews on scene included the Bryn Athyn Fire Company Fire Police, Lower Moreland, Cheltenham and Abington Fire Marshals, Lower Moreland police, Jenkintown Fire Department, Rockledge Fire Company, medic units and Montgomery County Emergency Management.

At 5:17am Thursday, Lower Moreland police announced that the 700 block of Welsh Road was shut down in both directions due to a transformer explosion in the area and low hanging wires in the roadway.
