FoodChasers’ Kitchen, located at 7852 Montgomery Avenue in Elkins Park, has closed for good. An adjacent business confirmed that their sign has been taken down.
The cheesesteak-centric restaurant first opened in 2021 and gained popularity after Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts gave a pregame interview and cheesesteak-making lessons to Thursday Night Football’s Taylor Rooks on site in October 2022. Singer/musician Lizzo made a cameo in the restaurant before playing a concert in Philadelphia that September.
Drs. Maya and Kala Johnstone, the restaurant’s twin owners, are also authors and former school principals of the Philly school system. Their business partners with inner-city schools through the FoodChasers Cares Foundation to provide funding for therapeutic calming spaces for students and teachers, offer book scholarships to graduating seniors, sponsor class trips, and several other charitable projects that provide donations to school staff and students.
Their website is still live and says that a new location is coming soon. Their last Facebook post was August 4.
An Instagram post on August 25 reads “We are not going to give y’all a long, sad post because we’re sooo excited about our new FCK journey 🤗. We’ll definitely keep y’all posted!”
