Montgomery Montessori School has a new home at 860 Welsh Road in Huntingdon Valley.
The 38-year-old institution had been located at 1620 Pine Road in Abington Township until a fire broke out in November 2024. A spark from a heating unit caused flames to engulf the roof and destroy nearly everything inside the facility.
Nearly 100 children were safely evacuated within minutes. Flooding from a storm exacerbated the problem, and so the school temporarily operated out of Bryn Athyn College until November 2025.

At the time, the Department of Human Services issued a cease and desist and wrote that the school could continue to operate while it made an appeal.
Director Karen Slifer told Glenside Local she looked at 67 different locations before finding the right fit.
“It’s beautiful. The facility is nice, the families are ecstatic, and we’re moving forward. We’re hopefully here for another 38 years. You can’t put us down. We moved five times. It’s been a crazy ride,” Slifer said.
A GoFundMe launched roughly a year ago raised over $20,000, which Slifer said has gone to help with expenses incurred from the fire in addition to the school’s various relocations since the fire.
