Mike Brown, Cheltenham grad, qualifies for 44th U.S. Senior Open which runs June 27-30

Michael R. Brown Jr., a 1991 graduate of Cheltenham High School, has qualified for the 44th U.S. Senior Open which spans June 27-30 at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I., a venue that hosted the first U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in 1895.

Brown qualified for the event after a 5-for-3 playoff with a par on the first playoff hole at Steel Club in Hellertown, according to Makefieldputters.com.

“Getting through this qualifier is a huge monkey off my back because it’s been my goal forever to play professionally and I just didn’t make it,” he said. “Just for a week to be out there with those guys will make it feel like all I have put into the game has been worth it.”

Brown’s first state Amateur title came in 2012 and went on to win a U.S. Open qualifier the following year. His recent performances can be found here.

“Most of my family doesn’t know where I’m playing and what I am playing in. They just know that golf is all I do. It’ll be nice for them to see what was motivating me,” Brown said.

His home course has been LuLu Country Club in Glenside.
