Man sentenced 8-17 years on gun charges following traffic stop in Abington

Devon Aloysius Carroll, 36, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to felony charges of carrying a firearm without a license and possession of a firearm with an altered manufacturer’s number following a traffic stop in Abington Township in June 2023, Mainline Media News reported today.

According to the story, Abington police stopped a 2018 Dodge Challenger on the morning of June 24 after observing “that the registration plate on the rear of the vehicle was covered by a plastic tinted plate cover.”

A subsequent search revealed suspected marijuana and a Taurus 9mm semiautomatic handgun containing 11 rounds of ammunition in the magazine. A background check determined Carroll did not have a license to carry a firearm, Mainline Media said.

Carroll faces a possible maximum sentence of 8.5 to 17 years in prison.
