Jalen Douglas-Smith, 19, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to committing a gunpoint home invasion robbery at the 200 block of Cedar Road in the Elkins Park section of Abington Township on December 2, 2024, The Reporter said.
According to the story, Douglas-Smith and Jonathan Dell, 24, of Philadelphia, together used packing tape to restrain two members of the household.
Douglas-Smith’s charges include robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle, burglary and carrying a firearm without a license, The Reporter said. He faces a possible maximum sentence of 43 to 86 years in prison.
Dell, who was arrested by Abington Township police in December 2024, is awaiting trial on robbery and related charges.
An investigation began after the homeowner reported to police that two suspects approached her at gun point and announced a robbery while she was loading items into her car in her driveway. The suspects then forced her into the home where she and her adult son were held at gunpoint.
The suspects ransacked the home and stole cash, jewelry, electronics, and collectibles. Prior to their departure, the suspects bound the victims and fled in the homeowner’s vehicle, police said.
A short time later, the victims freed themselves and called for help. Neither victim was injured, police said.
