Lower Moreland to receive $320K for traffic signal improvements via PennDOT’s ARLE program

Lower Moreland Township will use $320,100 from Pennsylvania’s Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) program to upgrade traffic signals at the intersections of Welsh Road and Valley Road and Welsh Road and Lieberman Drive.

The program will distribute $13 million total for safety improvements in 35 municipalities across the state, PennDOT said. Funding for the program is generated from the net revenue of fines collected through Automated Red Light Enforcement Systems and Automated Speed Enforcement Systems.

Requested projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such as safety benefits and effectiveness, cost, and local and regional impact.

“This program helps communities across the state make important investments in traffic flow and safety,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said in a press release. “These improvements complement the many road, bridge, and multimodal projects happening in Pennsylvania, and are in line with the Shapiro Administration’s commitment to invest in Pennsylvania’s infrastructure and help keep communities connected safely to opportunity and each other.”
