Lady Panthers open their season with a Tip Off Classic “W”

The Cheltenham High School Varsity girls basketball team has opened their 2022-’23 season with back-to-back wins. The team hosted a Tip-Off Classic tournament at Cedarbrook this past weekend, finishing with victories over Northeast High School and Simon Gratz High School.

The Lady Panthers championship game on Sunday against Simon Gratz ended with a decisive 51-26 final score. Jiah Price and Maya Simmons led the Panthers in scoring with 18 and 13 points respectively, and each grabbed 14 rebounds.

“In past seasons we have stumbled to gain confidence early in the season and getting these wins really help,” Ben Bowman, head coach of the Lady Panthers since 2018 and a ’97 graduate of CHS, said. “We are a young team and it’s good to build confidence early in the season.”

The team will take on New Hope-Solebury High School Lions this Friday in New Hope. For the Lady Panthers’ full 2022-’23 game schedule, you can click here.
