Keep Easy Meadery in Jenkintown feat. in The Inquirer: ‘Just don’t call it a meadery’

Keep Easy Meadery in Jenkintown was recently featured in an article by The Philadelphia Inquirer titled “Jenkintown has a new cocktail bar that specializes in mead. Just don’t call it a meadery”.

The article details the journey of owners Melissa Hager and Mike O’Donnell, including how they came up with the name, the concept, and a few fun facts about the process used to create the often-misunderstood mead. An excerpt:

They considered making beer or spirits, but the brewery market felt oversaturated and the overhead on a distillery seemed out of reach. Mead, by contrast, requires relatively little equipment. Plus, “not a lot of people know about this,” O’Donnell said.

The Keep Easy is described as “a cozy bar serving up dry, house-made mead plus Pennsylvania wine and cocktails” with an “extensive traditional cocktail list, from a gin fizz to dark & stormy, all made from scratch. They’re sourcing from several Pennsylvania distilleries — Bluecoat, New Liberty, Resurgent, Thistle Finch, Dad’s Hat, Manatawny Still Works, Bluebird, Jacquin’s, and more.”

The article also gives a nod to other establishments in Jenkintown, including Human Robot, Newbolds, Pizza Wheel, Via 417, Buckets and the Drake Tavern.

“Jenkintown’s just awesome,” O’Donnell said. “It could be a Doylestown, it could be a New Hope once more businesses come in … We wanted to be a part of that, too.”
