Jerod Dabney, Cheltenham grad, moving up the career ladder: Now a CBS Evening News producer

Jerod Dabney, a 2010 Cheltenham High School graduate, is currently the producer for CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, his duties include researching information, gathering videos and pictures, writing scripts, and editing together stories for the daily broadcast of the CBS Evening News.

Dabney also conducts interviews for stories, travels and produces stories on location, and constructs the graphics you see featured in the stories during the broadcast.

After graduating Temple University with a Communications degree in 2014, Jerod went to work at Philadelphia’s CBS3/KYW-TV as a production assistant, news writer, and sports producer before going on to produce and write at ABC affiliate WMAR-TV in Baltimore, Maryland. Next came NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt where he was an associate producer.

At Cheltenham High, he played four years of football and was an anchor and producer for Cheltenham’s news magazine show “Eye of the Panther” which aired on Channel 42, the district’s public access channel. He also found time to write for “The Cheltonian.”
