Acoustic Keys, a Jenkintown-based classic rock, pop and indie band, was recently honored with a 2023 Jenkintown Artist Laureate award on behalf of the Borough.

Lisa Ridenour and her neighbor Joe Mahoney, a fourth generation Jenkintown resident, have been playing together for eight years.

“We decided to do pop-up block concerts during the pandemic, which led us to raising money for the Jenkintown Food Cupboard,” Lisa said. “We love to play. We’ve done a lot of charity events, and it’s been such a privilege to be able to reach so many demographics with our music. Joe has a great sense of how to reach audiences. It unifies people, and that’s been probably the most valuable thing we’ve taken away since we started. It’s been pretty magical.”

Lisa doubles as a piano teacher, and many of her students attend their events.

“I think the award stands for artistic achievement in our field,” she said. “We were able to raise over $7,000 for the Cupboard, we played many of the Town Square events, and our diverse calendar were apparently contributing factors.”

“There are a lot of bands that do a lot of things in the area. It’s not just about us,” she said.
