The Jenkintown School District issued a letter regarding last night’s meeting, during which a public presentation detailed a potential expansion of the district’s facilities via the acquisition of land currently occupied by Salba Apartments (309 Walnut Street).
According to the letter, the Reverend Marshall Mitchell, Pastor of Salem Baptist Church, believes that the 51-year-old building is “nearing the end of its useful life and would like to give Jenkintown first consideration for land use.”
The acquisition could come through a purchase or a long-term rental agreement. Current tenants of the low-income housing apartments will be ensured “affordable housing solutions,” the letter said.
A community feedback form will be sent to residents within the coming months, officials said.
