United States Attorney David Metcalf announced today that Seok Joon Lee, 54, of Jenkintown, was charged by indictment with impersonating a federal officer.

The indictment alleges that Lee falsely assumed and pretended to be an agent and employee of the FBI on or about April 22.

According to the report, Lee entered a Philadelphia supermarket “wearing a bulletproof vest, a law enforcement-type duty belt, a holstered firearm loaded with 13 rounds of live ammunition, and two spare magazines. He then “identified himself as an FBI agent to a security guard, and attempted to conduct a security check of the supermarket.”

Lee allegedly told responding officers from the Philadelphia Police Department that he was “undercover FBI” and that his credentials and FBI number could be located elsewhere.

If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of a monetary fine and three years in prison, Metcalf said.

This case was investigated by the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Philadelphia Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael R. Miller and Nelson S.T. Thayer Jr.
