On Sunday, Rear Admiral John Mauger, a 1987 Jenkintown High School graduate and the First Coast Guard District commander held a news conference with Captain Jason Neubauer, chief investigator, US Coast Guard.
Mauger noted the complexity of the situation and offered condolences to those who knew the Titan’s passengers who died.
The vessel suffered a “catastrophic implosion,” killing everyone on board, Mauger said during a press conference Thursday, June 22.
On Thursday, June 29, CNN reported that “presumed human remains” have been found and will be analyzed by experts. From their article:
The US Coast Guard has convened a Marine Board of Investigation – its highest level of inquiry – to examine what caused the tragedy and offer possible recommendations “to the proper authorities to pursue civil or criminal sanctions as necessary,” said Neubauer, who heads the board and leads the team investigating the Titan disaster.
Investigators will analyze debris from the vessel’s wreckage, collect evidence, interview witnesses and hold a public hearing for more witness testimony.
