In January 2023, Jenkintown Borough was working through several proposals for apartment complexes.

The proposals—one at 821 Homestead Road, one at 459-471 York Road, the other at 501 Washington Lane—are each moving forward, though at different rates.

26 apartment units at 501 Washington Lane are under construction.

“They stripped the building, and the construction is ongoing. They have all their permits except their sprinkler permit. They have all their approvals,” Borough manager George Locke said.

25 apartment units for the forthcoming 821 Homestead Road complex (pictured below) are taking shape as well. Midgard Properties LP, a Jenkintown-based firm, demolished a three-story multi-purpose house and adjacent garage and is in the process of converting a former church into three townhouses as part of their project.

“They’re moving along. There are no complications with it. He’d like to get the outside buttoned up with a roof within the next month,” Locke said.

Across the street is a proposed apartment building at 459-471 York Road, the site of the former Helwig’s Funeral Home. According to Locke, the developer’s proposal was turned down and they are revising their plans.

“They appealed that decision and they’re revising their plans for resubmission. They didn’t tell us a date,” he said.
