History with Chuck: Cheltenham vs. Abington Thanksgiving football, Nov. 26, 1992

On Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1992, senior running back Chad Levitt (above) rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns to lead Cheltenham High School to a 36-0 victory over Abington Senior High School.

The traditional backyard rivalry also saw Eric Logan boot a 24-yard field goal, and receivers Kahlil Jones (below) and Howard “Lucky” Sowell catch touchdown passes from quarterback Peter Britton.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, the Panther defense limited Abington to 91 total yards and only five first downs.

The game was Coach Joe Gro’s first victory against Abington and the first Panther win over the Ghosts since 1981 when quarterback Gregg Caplan hit wide receiver Mark Cheikin with a last-minute touchdown pass to propel CHS to a 20-16 triumph over Abington.
